Project 2D : Sarong, 30 July 2010, 0900-1200

First of all, we have to walk around HBP with our mask and then taking photo.

Today, the project given is recalled what we have heard from the Dr Illias last 2 week. After that we sketch it on 20 pages of A3 paper in 20 min. I do my best in sketch the scene and it is hard for me because i have no idea how to sketch a picture before.

Finally, i pass up all the sketches. I have the intention to learn how to sketch a real image and then i act to do my best in the sketches. Although my sketches seem like a child's sketches but that is my product, i try to learn from book how to become a good sketcher.

Project 2C : The 101 Masks, 26 July 2010, 0900-1200

After finishing GETTHO, we have another challenge, that is project 2C : The 101 masks. Every students need to create 2 masks, one of the mask is exactly same as our skin color and another one is black and white with emotion.

We start to think how to finish the project immediately. First of all, we think to use clay but we fail to create a mask because when we take out the mask, the mask started to break.

We never give up. After that we try another method, that is we put a layer of plastic then we glue the paper on the plastic layer by layer. When we glue the layer we let the glue dry first before another layer is putting on to it by hair dryer.




When we are going to create our second mask, we meet Mr Wan B, he told us another method of doing the mask, that is we put facial oil on our face first and then put a wet tissue follow by tissue with glue. He said that our method not so good because the tissue is not directly touch our face and then we have contour on the plastic. Therefore the mask we produce is a big different from our face. After that, we rush to Tesco to buy the facial oil but the only oil we found is Baby Oil.

On the second day, we started to do our mask immediately after the class.











 This is our second project.

This is my final product.









Finally, we finish our project. I have learnt the following by the end of the class :
- Intention : think how to create our mask by different way and design our mask so that it is unique
- Act : just try what we have think
- Product : whether the product has contour that not belong to us, but that is the way we learn, we learn from mistake
- People : a group of 6 peoples
- Principle : we listen to our lecturer after getting advise from him
- Place : corridor of Dataran Merah, HBP.

Project 2B Man-Made Structure : BST in GETTHO, 23-25 July 2010

Today, we are given another interesting project too. The project is create own Bamboo Sound Tool (BST). Lecturer has shown the different of the type of bamboo can product different sound.






We went to bamboo site at Tasik Harapan immediately after the class because we found many bamboo waste in the morning. Luckily when we reach there, workers haven't finish clear the site so they help us to find some good bamboo.









The bamboo stick had cut my hand accidentally. After finish collecting the bamboo, we rushed to the open ceremony of GETTHO.

This is my BST and my friends BST.

Finally, i have finish my project and although is very tired but i have many fun with my friends. From the project i learn the intention is to create unique BST and my act is to create the BST above, finally the product is shown in picture above. People in this project are students from HBP and Tasik Harapan has become a place to collect our bamboo.

Before the class dismiss, another lecturer has give another assignment to do which has topic of "Bamboo Sense". He shows the image of a basket made of bamboo and wanted students to think word to describe what we 'see', 'heard' and 'smell'. Answer should be present in wordle as below :

Project 2A : Natural Structure, 19th July 2010, 0900-1200

Today, i have learnt many things in lecture hall. I learnt dot, line and shape.

1) Basic tool to form dot, line and shape : - pencil, pen, scale ruler, measuring tapes, paper, et al.

2) Dot : - marks a position in space and do not have any length, width and depth.

3) Line : - critical element in the formation of any visual

4) Plane and Shape





We were given an assignment to draw building of HBP with dot on a A4 size paper and only with single angle of line on the other A4 size paper. Here is my single angle line drawing assignment :

I learn something after drawing the building, i have discovered that actually i was enjoying drawing which i do not like before. The intention is to finish my assignment and i have started to act which is draw the picture, finally i finished the drawing which is the product to pass up. Although the drawing a bit different from the picture but this is a big challenge for me since i have never have the interest in drawing.

After that we had introduced to a new interesting project that is Project 2A  Natural Structure : Bamboo.

 We need to go to bamboo site to find bamboo clusters but for QS students we have a compulsory meeting too so we went to the bamboo site after the meeting by ourselves. Before that, we have been thought that the 3P in this particular project are :

I have draw my assignment which show a life cycle of bamboo (life joints). My story begin with a bamboo names Bam who are wasting his time all the ways. Someday he saw one of his bamboo friend grew old. He scare and wonder why his friend will grow old. His friend told him a story and he discover that from bamboo 'baby', he grow up and someday he will grow old too. So he started to plan how to manage his time so that he will not regret after he die. This is my project 2A :

Project 1B : Me, My Thoughts & I, 16th July 2010, 0900-1200

On the 16th July 2010, 0900-1200, I have attended my second RUS 101 class. There is another lecturer told us some interesting story. The lecturer names Dr Ilias Said from Construction Management.

First of all, he taught us to be in the present, learn from the past, help-create the future and realize your purpose. Dr. started his story by the day we accepted the offer letter from USM, whether poor people or rich people, all are happy with the offer letter. I think nobody is excepted because they have confirm by the APEX university. But the whole village does not celebrate with me actually. On the registration day, I was came alone from Segamat to USM with joyful and a bit scare because this is a long way to travel from my hometown. I should proud of study in USM which mean 'lucky' by Dr Ilias Said.

Then, Dr. continue by his story with a turtle and a rabbit. Some days, a rabbit and a turtle plan to have a race, when race is started, rabbit run and then stop to have snap because the turtle is far behind, but finally turtle reach the end point while rabbit is sleeping. And then the story continue with another race which is organised by rabbit seem rabbit lose in the first race. When second race started, rabbit run as fast as possible to reach the ending point and rabbit won the race. But turtle think that the winner should not be rabbit so turtle organise a race again, this time turtle choose another track. When the race started, the rabbit run as fast as possible, but when rabbit reach a river he stop and cannot continue his journey because the ending point is just on the opposite site of the river. Finally turtle won the third race. After that, turtle and rabbit plan to have a cooperate race which means rabbit will bring turtle to the river bank and then turtle will bring rabbit across the river. At the end of the story i knew that we need to cooperate in all the situation. We could not live alone in the world. Each of the people created have their own ability and function.

After that, Mr Wan Burhanuddin gave us a project. Each of the students in the studio have different topic of project. My job is to read the project given and suggest it to become a part of PONDOK (Polar Shift and Other Natural Disaster Organization Kit). The project title is Mosquito-Indigenious Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.

I have do my best to find out what is the information given to me and I have learnt about the Mosquito UAV, technology which I do not listen before. Mosquito UAV is a communication tool which will help on the scenario 21st December 2012, 11am, which is predicted to have a sea level rising on the world. I feel thankful to have this project.

What I Heard, 0900-1100, 12 July 2010

On 12nd July 2010, 0900-1100, I have my first RUS 101 class at E48B. The lecturer name is Mr Wan Burhanuddin bin Wan Abidin. The lecturer ask me in the class, why I choose USM, and my answer definite is I want to study in APEX. On the other hand I have a question in my brain, why I want to study in APEX university since i do not know what APEX means. Afterward i realise that being an APEX student is not easy because I have the responsible to bring our school USM to APEX. The task is very hard for me but I try to tell myself to do my best.

First of all, I have learnt the name of our Naib Canselor Y.Bhg. Profesor Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak. All the students in HBP are advised to remember the name of the Naib Canselor.

Secondly, I learn about the meaning of production. Production comes from an action where acted by an actor with intention, whatever the action acts by the actor, there is rule to control the action of the actor. Place should be appear if there is an actor act within some rules. Therefore, 3P is appear which means people, principle and place. Everything that we have done is came from 3P. For example, a group of basketball players is playing basketball on basketball court with the basketball rules and maybe they just take it as an exercise or take it as a match. We can see there is people, place and principle from the sentence which means everything surrounding us with human act is related to 3P. The others examples that have been given by lecturer for actors are students, studiomaster, USM community, Penangites and et al(and other).



Thirdly, I have been though that APEX students must have APEX intention and APEX act with APEX rules in USM which is an APEX university. The word APEX means Accelerated Program for Excellent which means USM pushing hard to become the top university among all the university in Malaysia and top 5 in the world. And then i remember that the starting of the class, lecturer told us that to be APEX students, we need to be excellent which is good^4.

GOOD > BETTER > BEST > EXCELLENT

After that i have been though to differenciate the meaning of hear and listen. The different between these 2 words are the people who listen will concentrate and hear carefully what others say while the people who hear will just listen to speaker but do not think it twices.



And finally i knew that we spoke almost 3500 words per day and 35000 english word is directly use in Bahasa Malaysia. This is the end of the first class which bring fun and simple introduction to new students.
